Year of Beer: #147 Bell's - Hop Slam

Only 60 case of this beer were shipped to St. Louis or Missouri (unclear which). I first read about this beer on StlHops and went looking for some bottles yesterday at Clayton Wine and Cheese. They were sold out within a few days but I found 4 6-packs for sale at Starrs. I am really excited to find this beer, I didn't think I would get any this year.  read more »

Fun and Games

Decided to bottle a couple comp entries for our local club so I started soaking six bottles and cleaned the labels. One was a SA that had the brewery name in raised letters on the bottle - that would DQ me.

Had a partial sixer from a brewery NW of town that I knew was infected so I decided to use one of those bottles. Didn't want to drain the sink (barely luke warm now) to pour it out so I scaped the label off dry and put it in to clean the glue off. Damn thing blew up in my hand. No major damage - guess the water absorbed some of the energy.

Just finished emptying the rest out in the yard - 3 ft geysers

Tips N Tricks Thread

Some of the things that make my brew life easier. Not my original brainstorms. Just stuff I found on the web.
I keg now but I'm bottling for competitions. I hate bottling so this stuff is on my mind at the moment.

Bottle cleaning - Cut the loop off a bottle brush, chuck it in a CORDLESS drill and go to town.

Label Removal - soak in hot water with oxyclean for 15 minutes, remove labels and scrub with choreboy to remove excess glue.

Bottle filling from keg - Remove Perlick tap tip, place 3 gallon keg dip tube with a small o-ring on it in tip, replace tip. Vent keg and set to 3 psi and start filling ice cold bottles. Very little foam. For even more fun, use second tap with c02 hooked up to blast bottle before filling.

Sanitizing - fill spray bottle with star san and just wet stuff instead of dunking everything. saves on sanitizer.  read more »

A-B Earnings Miss Wall Street Expectations

Modelo equity income down.Anheuser-Busch on Thursday reported fourth quarter earnings that fell short of Wall Street analyst expectations.A-B reported earnings of 29 cents per diluted share. The Street was expecting 32 cents.Equity income from A-Bs 50 percent stake in Grupo Modelo has helped boost the companys earnings in the past. That didnt happen in the fourth quarter. Equity income dropped 12 percent, reflecting reduced Grupo Modelo export volume and increased production costs, partially offset by benefits from Modelo's Crown import joint venture, according to the release.According to A-Bs release, the beer industry grew by 1.4 percent in 2007.  read more »
