I actually had occasion to visit the Big Boss brew pub (also known as Horniblow’s Tavern) in Raleigh over the last weekend. It is a tavern the likes of which I haven’t seen before. It is basically the attic of the brewery, with a bunch of shabbily appointed rooms with old couches and wood paneling, a couple of old arcade games, a run-down pool table, a shabby ping pong table with no balls, and 2 eaten-up dart boards with only a couple of dilapidated darts. In other words, it was awesome. In truth, it was a good time - it’s a very laid back scene with some excellent beers on tap for cheap and a number of various activities to occupy your time. Truthfully, this probably isn’t the place to come for a fancy night out. But, if you want a casual pint and some conversation, it’s a great option. read more »
I'm thinking about picking up a better bottle for secondary purposes. Since it's made of plastic - how does one go about cleaning the inside? Would a carboy brush be too abrasive?
Just cracked open a bottle of the new batch of oatmeal stout - it's awesome but of course it lacks that extra smoothness. Can someone post a pic of an example of the kind of syringe I'd need and maybe where I'd get one? I assume it wouldn't be the medical kind. I'm not sure what else is out there...

As Jonathan has previously mentioned I’m currently in Japan visiting family. Apart from receiving a minor concussion every day as I walk through the doors and forget to duck (door frames are about 5′9″, I’m 6′2″…It hurts) the visit has been quite spectacular. read more »
Seems like anything using nottingham is pretty good for cooler temps - I've used this strain a few times already. What types of ale is it ideally suited for?
Kolsch was something else I was considering. I'll have a kegerator soon so some lagering in a keg is possible. The basement is also an option but it only gets down to around 45 down there so I'm not sure if this is cool enough. Are there any dry kolsch strains of yeast?
I'm open to other suggestions. My next brew is going to be my first kegged beer so I'm pretty excited.
Scuderia Toro Rosso duo Sebastian Vettel and Sebastien Bourdais topped the times on the second day of testing at Barcelona in Spain today, as some teams began to see how much speed they could get out of their new machines.
