Samuel Adams Announces Patriot Homebrew Contest Winner

Boston, MA - April 29, 2008 - Adam Walsh just won "the big one" at Gillette Stadium without ever having to suit up, and, rather than the standard eleven opponents, Adam triumphed over nearly 200 of them. Football? No. Adam Walsh is a homebrewer from Massachusetts whose recipe for an IPA (India Pale Ale) beat out entries from all over New England to win the 2008 Patriot Homebrew Contest hosted by The Boston Beer Company, brewers of Samuel Adams(r) beers.  read more »

"Adam's IPA is terrific," said Samuel Adams Brewer and Founder Jim Koch. "It's not easy to brew an IPA that has a lot of flavor and maintains its balance, but Adam got it just right." New England Patriots' ticket holders won't have to take Jim's word for it. With Adam's help, Samuel Adams will brew his Patriot Homebrew IPA at its Boston Brewery to be served at the Samuel Adams Brewhouse in Gillette Stadium during the entire 2008-2009 football season.

Going Mainstream?

Imports are a big part of the U.S. beer business -- and theyre going to get bigger. As recently as 2004, full-calorie mainstream domestic beers commanded more share in supermarkets than imports. Thats not the case now. Imports in 2007 represented more than 14 percent of supermarket beer sales, according to beer sales statistics from Nielsen. Mainstream full-cal domestics, meanwhile, accounted for just over 11 percent. That stat highlights how imports are an increasingly important part of the U.S. beer business. And that trend is only going to continue. The latest issue of Brew took an in-depth look at how imports have transformed -- and will continue to transform -- the U.S. beer business. From the issue:How big is imported beer?  read more »

Samuel Adams Recall

Boston Beer Company (ie Samuel Adams) has issued a voluntary product recall, which affects some of their bottled products. 881-890. The Return of the Belgian Beer Fest: Part 2

These are the second set of 10 new beers that I had at the Belgian Beer Fest. A good portion of them seem to be rare or one-off beers given that they're not in the BA database. I think this is a sign of a good beer fest, that brewers are willing to bring their small batch, one-off beers to a fest, or better yet, to brew them for a fest. It helps keep the variety high and the offerings interesting. 881. The Tap Honing Ale Beer Stats: Brewery: The Tap / Haverhill Brewery, Inc Alcohol: 6.80% Style: Belgian Pale Ale , BJCP Style Guide Pours a cloudy, straw golden. Topped by a sudsy head. Honey is definitely present in the aroma with a bit of a resiny character. The sweetness of the honey mingles well with a nice tart fruitiness from the yeast.  read more »

Battle of the Glasses!

Ever since I posted the article about Boston Beer Company’s new glass , one of my first posts on sevenpack, I’ve wanted to write this proceeding post, but first I needed to own one of the glasses. Having finally purchased two of the glasses during a winter trip up to New Hampshire, I was able to do another battle royal, this time entitled “Battle of the Glasses”. The premise is rather straight forward. I would pour Sam Adams Boston Lager into traditional Vienna Lager glasses (Flute, Mug, Pilsner) and also into the special Boston Beer Company glass. Unfortunately I do not own a flute glass, but I thought a pint glass would be a good replacement (when was the last time you were served Sam Adams Boston Lager in a flute glass?). I picked up a six pack of Sam Adams Boston Lager and the battle began!  read more »
