2008's Oregon Brewers Festival was the best yet with more beer and more attendees than ever before. The state's rich culture of craft beer was highlighted by more than 70 breweries offering their tasty selections to a boisterously jolly quaffing crowd.
The crowds on a Thursday afternoon at the OBF are big, but nothing compared to those on Friday and Saturday.
I always enjoy getting down to the festival early to ensure short lines and that the beers I really want to sample are still available. One thing I've learned from years past is that by Friday and Saturday, the festivities are in full swing and Tom McCall Park can feel a bit more like a moshpit with seemingly endless lines. Another time that I like to visit the festival is early Sunday afternoon. At this time I hoped to try the remainder of the beers undiscovered by my palate in hopes that many of them will still be available. read more »
May 19 is the drop dead date for HB 196 otherwise known as the Gourmet Beer Bill. That is tomorrow. Everybody keep your fingers crossed.
Two things that do not bode well for the bill. One, it appears that the Free the Hops website is either under attack or has been taken down before the vote. Secondly, this article was in yesterdays Montgomery Advertiser. We have been led to believe that Governor Bob Riley would sign this bill if it passes. After reading the article ,it doesn't look good for his signature. As well, bills passed at this point in the session can be pocket vetoed. Another likely outcome....along with the dreaded filibuster.
I am glad I am a brewer. read more »

You may have already read about David Banner's heroic performance at the Levi's /FADER Fort on Saturday but we're doing everyone else one better by putting up video of Mister Mississippi destroying "Suicide Doors" with a full band, including Mannie Fresh on DJ duties. Beer gets drank, beer gets spit, photographers get ridden like donkeys and Pimp C gets a moment of silence. It was probably the best thing we witnessed or thought about witnessing all week.
Dan over at Daily Dixie has put together a quick video highlighting last week's Gourmet Beer bill debate in the Alabama House.
