Given that Dogfish Head Craft Brewery touts its line of singular beers as "off-centered ales for off-centered people," you naturally expect its owner, the 39-year-old Sam Calagione, will be a similarly eccentric character. But he's as down to earth as his beers are out of this world.
After earning an English degree from Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania in 1992, Calagione moved to Manhattan to take writing courses at Columbia with an eye toward joining its master of fine arts program. Instead, he discovered craft beer. He fell hard, becoming a home brewer almost overnight. read more »
Wow, there sure are a lot of bloggers participating in The Session... I think my prediction about The Session (and beer blogging in general) taking off this year is on-target.
You've likely already read my Session contribution... so, here are all the rest. In order to be fair, I've tried to list the links in the order that I received them, or first came across them in the blogs if I didn't receive an email. read more »

We wanted to see if we could grow hops at our brewery in Chico, California so we planted our own hop field selecting our prized Cascade and Centennial varieties along with some specialty hop varieties to experiment with. To our surprise, we not only could grow hops, we were also able to harvest them in late summer due to Chicos ideal climate. Chico Estate Harvest Ale is one of the very few estate harvest ales produced anywhere in the world today. All the hops in the beer are grown naturally on the premises of our brewery in Chico. read more »
I kinda flipped when I learned there was an entirely Boston-themed bar ( that is, a bar made entirely in tribute to the city of Boston ) in San Francisco, but would you believe a Northern California-themed beer bar in Brooklyn, New York? read more »
Welcome to my little tour of two of the franchise locations of BJs Brewhouse Restaurant. I searched this place out quite a bit on the internet looking for brewpubs in the Ontario, CA area since I was heading out there on business. BJs is a public company with locations throughout California and a few other Southwestern states, including two locations in Florida and one in Columbus, Ohio. This franchise is located, like most BJs, in or around a mall parking lot with easy accessibility and parking. As I walked in at about 4:30, the place was half-full. read more »

Think of the cool, beach-side pizza joint you went to in high school, but add the really good microbrew that you're now able to drink. Sounds nice, right? Well, that's Pizza Port.
The Solana Beach location is just a couple of blocks from the ocean and it seems to feed in off of that vibe. Long, wooden tables are the theme here so, if you don't like eating next to someone that you don't know, you may want to come during the off-peak hours. There isn't really a bar, and the beer taps are right next to the pizza ovens. read more »
Ive only had a single bomber of each of their 2 bottled beers, but Im willing to stake what minimal reputation I have on the fact that Santa Barbara, CAs TELEGRAPH BREWING are one of the countrys finest brewers right now, and will soon be blazing a path to your esophagu read more »
