I apologize for the tardiness of this post. Over a month and a half late, I'm beginning to feel like Ward. Jadyn and I went to the afternoon session of Beer Advocate's Belgian Beer Fest on the 27th of October. We arrived early enough to be within a half-block of the doors. This year's fest seemed less crowded than last year's. The middle row of booths was removed and replaced with seating. Overall I think this was an improvement, there's still more than enough variety and it's far less crowded. As with other fests the notes are more general, abbreviated and are probably to be trusted less as the fest progresses. 715. Given that Dogfish Head Craft Brewery touts its line of singular beers as "off-centered ales for off-centered people," you naturally expect its owner, the 39-year-old Sam Calagione, will be a similarly eccentric character. But he's as down to earth as his beers are out of this world.
After earning an English degree from Muhlenberg College in Pennsylvania in 1992, Calagione moved to Manhattan to take writing courses at Columbia with an eye toward joining its master of fine arts program. Instead, he discovered craft beer. He fell hard, becoming a home brewer almost overnight. read more »

I actually can't believe noone has reviewed the Dogfish Head brewery.
This place is amazing. I literally plan my vacation around when they have tours which is often, so that's good.
This place has grown each time I've been (4 years in a row). The tour is great, they take you through each step, and at the end they provide as much beer as you can handle, which of course aids in your purchase in cases of beer as well as gear (t-shirts, hats, signs, etc).
I highly recommend visiting the Dogfish Head brewery for a tour. And, it's less than 15-20 minutes from the BrewPub in Rehoboth Beach, DE. read more »

Beer to Be Named by BeerAdvocate.com Members and Served at the 2009 Extreme Beer Fest in Boston Planet Earth (December 4, 2008) - Typically, beer is brewed with four base ingredients (water, malt, hops, and yeast) and beer styles tightly frame the brewer's art with restrictive captions. read more »
To say that the response to the 2008 Yule and Christmas Beer Blog Photo Contest and Pageant... I did mention the pantomime pageant, did I?... has been far greater than expected would be the understatement of the year. We just created another photo set on Flickr for entries submitted between 28 November and half of the entries on 2 December and that adds another 119 photos to the 118 on the first Flickr photo set. 237 pictures to 2 December and we still have four days of entries to catch up. That is crazy...but not if you consider the fabulous prizes that are being pledged by these great sponsors: read more »

I just finished with the tour and headed out to the brewpub which I reviewed too. This was a good tour. Our guide (I think Luke or something) was very knowlegdeable and friendly. the tour was an "extra" tour they made to accomodate people being late due to 4th of July traffic - very nice that they did that as I was one of the late ones too. Again the guide was very knowlegdeable but also enthusiastic. Seeming some of the original equipment was a bonus. I read Sam's book and so it was cool to see some of the stuff, though I would've love to have seen the "vibrating football field/continual hopper". read more »
