Some have even built restaurants or brewpubs where visitors can lunch on a Kobe burger and wash it down with a German-style ale. I made a big beer trade two months ago in order to land the entire BOULEVARD BREWING Smokestack Series of special-run, one-time-only beers. There were 4 in all: a saison, an IPA, a tripel and a quadrupel. Astute readers may remember that me and a couple of pals knocked out 3 of the 4 in one fell swoop the results are posted here . That said, here's a few new things to drool over while you're snowed in...
New American Beers:
The Bruery Partridge in a Pear Tree: Based on the text of the back label it appears that The Bruery is beginning a "12 Days of Christmas" series. The first verse is a Belgian-style quadrupel, which seems like a fitting choice for something that's designed to be held onto for 11 more years. As it stands now it's a little bit under-carbonated, but I'd guess that was an intentional choice to keep the beer from becoming over-carbonated at some point down the line. read more »

So which US city has the best beer scene? According to Philadelphia, it does. In anticipation of the upcoming Philly Beer Week, the Philadelphia Enquirer reports that the so-called sixth borough is actually seeming closer to a neighborhood in Brussels. Due to greater Philly's abundance of Belgian pubs, trappist ales, breweries and mussels, Philly is laying claim to being our nation's new brewing capital. And they have a point, though I'm not sure how much the mussels have to do with it. read more »
